Sharifa and her children were homeless for seven years. Their lives changed when Sharifa found out they would soon have a home of their own at The Sydelle, our newly-built supportive housing residence.
She made it a surprise for her children and in July of 2017, they walked into their home for the very first time.
“My son said ‘Mommy, where are we going?’ I said, ‘We’re going home, baby. We’re going home.’ It felt amazing and while I looked at it, I was crying. I was just crying.”
Today, Sharifa and her children are part of a tight-knit community. With encouragement and support from her CUCS case worker, Sharifa is completing her GED and taking college courses. Her children are making new friends and enjoying life in the new neighborhood.
When you support CUCS, you help build a community of care and encouragement to thrive. You help build brighter futures.
